Roberta Smoodin has been the owner/manager of Thoroughbred horse farms since 1990
and founded
Thunder Run Stables in 2001.
Her Clients are from all over the United States and include a few International Clients.
One horse she foaled & raised, “Sabato” was sold to a Buyer in Europe
Sabato became “Champion 2 Year Old Colt” in Austria.
Roberta has a diverse background as a university professor
of English and Creative Writing, as a writer of fiction and non-fiction in nearly every genre, as a magazine editor and as an advertising copywriter in Hollywood and in the Thoroughbred
horse business.
Her animal family also includes an Australian Shepherd and a Westie mix
and an assortment of cats including two
Manxes and a Maine Coon Cat.
Her love of all of the animals in her care has led her to study them in depth.
Roberta is currently, the Director of Education and Curriculum Development for the
Nash
Academy, of Lexington, Kentucky.
She teaches online courses for Nash Academy, in dog and cat care
and has developed
the first online horse care course which will debut in late 2008.
Roberta has taught literature and fiction writing at various universities,
including the University of California at Irvine from which she holds a graduate degree in Creative Writing and English.
She is the author of four novels: URSUS MAJOR; PRESTO!; INVENTING IVANOV; and WHITE HORSE CAFÉ.
Roberta has authored numerous short stories, articles, interviews, book reviews, film reviews and
sports columns in magazines: Esquire, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Playgirl, and California and newspapers such as
the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Los Angeles Herald Examiner.
